Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission to ensure that every duck lives out it's happiest life.
Sponsorship includes a digital gift certificate plus a monthly digital newsletter with news all about the rescue and your chosen sponsored duck (or the flock).
We send out the newsletter once a month which includes photos and news about how your sponsor is getting on and news from the rescue.
You will also get reduced prices for items we sell such as cards and calendars.
You can either make a one-off donation or set up a direct debit, the choice is yours. The minimum amount is £5 per month. To give an idea of costs, a 20kg bag of food costs £10 (we go through a tonne of food a fortnight). Your donation/s will go towards feed, bedding, care and medicine for our feathered friends.
We like to offer you the chance to sponsor in the following way:
1. The entire rescue flock
2. One of our lovely ducks from the disabled flock
3. Or the disabled flock as a whole - this way you will get a newsletter about a different disabled resident each month.
Wilbur came to us through one of our lovely adoptors who became aware of his plight. He had been left with an identity ring that was too tight around his ankle causing his foot to die and an abscess to form on his ankle the size of a golf ball. Wilbur had his leg amputated as a result within 24 hours of arriving with us and is now much happier and no longer in pain. He enjoys a long stretch in the grass and a good swim. He even on occasion enjoys a good one-legged chase. Wilbur is a Cayuga.
George and Harry came to us after their owner had nursed them back to health from an injury but their legs had not fully recovered. Both boys hop around on one leg and can move incredibly fast when they want too. They are sweet boys who love to relax in the sunshine and watch the world go by.
Bee came into us with her siblings who were significantly bigger than her. She is full of life and character and has no fear. Bee is a Call Duck.
Teddy has come to us from a wonderful home where his owners saved him from a fox attack and nursed him back to health. The attack left Teddy with only about a 1/4 of his beak and tongue but despite this, he manages wonderfully. Teddy is a Cayuga Cross.
Hella has come to us for her forever retirement home. She is an older girl and has issues with her walking and a crooked wing. Despite her issues she can really move when she needs too and enjoys the company of her fellow disabled flock mates. Hella is a Saxony.
Poppy came to us as an older lady some significant issues with lameness and walking. Despite her problems, she is a feisty girl and keep us entertained with her antics. Poppy is a Pekin.
Derek is a charming older chap who thinks he is more dog than a duck. He loves nothing more than to follow you around and pester you for a stroke and a fuss. Derek has a severe angel wing and so cannot fly but he doesn't let this stop him. Derek is a Muscovy.
Charlotte is a lovely girl, she is an Ancona who has issues with her legs. She likes to spend her days in little pot holes that she finds in the enclosure, tucked away watching the world go by.
Zoe, who is actually a boy joined the rescue as a resident two years ago. He came with his best friend Lola, also a boy, but sadly Lola passed away last year.
Zoe now has a new best friend Bob, who whilst younger is a great carer for Zoe who is an older gentleman. Zoe is a Pekin.
Greg originally had no issues but got picked on by the boys during mating season and ended up with a really bad wound on his side. We nursed him back to health but he has never fully recovered so we decided to integrate him with the disabled flock. He absolutely loves it with them and we think he just enjoys the slower pace of life. Greg is a Runner.
Delilah is a runner cross who came to the rescue with her husband Bert. She has a deformity of her ankle and foot which means that her foot is twisted upside down. Despite this, she can still get around. We do, however, have to make sure that we keep her nails trimmed and check regularly for bumble foot.
Popps is one of our super special ducks who is not disabled but lives with the disabled flock as a carer. We did not decide this for her but she takes it upon herself to regularly preen the other ducks and look after them. She is an absolutely awesome girl who is so selfless, she is such an inspiration to the volunteers at the rescue. Popps is a Muscovy Cross.
Jemima is one of our smaller disabled residents who loves to chill out under a tree or on a branch. She has a deformity in her leg which means that she cannot use it. This does not stop her though, she hops or flies to get around. Jemima likes to wait until everyone else has gone to bed before she gets in! She is such a lovely little girl. Jemima us a Mini Appleyard..
Despite the name, Penguin is a duck! Penguin is Teddy's wife and they came in together to the rescue. She does not have a disability but she was so attached to Teddy that we could not bear to separate them. They are pretty much inseparable which is so lovely to see. Duck love is such a beautiful thing, we all need that in our lives! Penguin is a Runner.
Susie and Harry are in love! Harry is one of our older more distinguished gentlemen who has issues with his legs. Susie does not seem to mind this, she loves nothing more than flirting with him. They are such a sweet couple and are totally inseparable which is ever so cute.
Erica has a tiny crest on her head, which means that she is more vulnerable. She absolutely loves to spend her time dipping in and out of the pools. She also loves the sunshine, and will spend her days jumping in the pool then drying off in the sun under the trees. Erica is a Saxony.
Gregory (who is actually a girl, loving named by her previous owner) is a sweet older girl who has issues with her legs. She is otherwise healthy but cannot move very fast so is happily now living with our lovely disabled flock. Gregory is a Cross.
Puddles has come in with a long standing eye infection and blindness in one eye. We are currently treating her infection and enjoying her loud chatter when she greets you.
Sponsoring our flock means you will get to hear about all their antics, with different photos and news each month.
Sponsoring our disabled flock means you will get to hear about a different disabled duck each month including photos and news.
Abbie & Betty are two lovely Pekin ladies who do not have a full set of wings. Abbie has one wing and Betty has no wings. We believe they were born like this but unfortunately, we don't have any more information about their background. They have integrated into the disabled flock well and their lack of wings does not stop them from chasing around the enclosure and pushing their way to the front of the queue for peas & sweetcorn at bedtime!
Pepper came into the rescue as an older duckling having been found in the woods by his rescuer with a deformed leg. Pepper absolutely loves going in the various pools we have around the disabled enclosure. Although he likes to spend his time relaxing on his own he does like to have a bath with Erica. It is so cute! Pepper is a Cross.
Josie came to the rescue with April from a breeder. Like April, she was in a very poor state when she joined us. She was frightened, underweight and suffering from some lameness. Just like April, several months on she is doing extremely well and is no longer lame or underweight. Despite this, she is so settled with the disabled flock and being with April that we have decided she should stay with us for her forever home. She is such a sweet girl and we love her here at the rescue. Josie is a Runner.
Francis is a distinguished older lady (she is about 9 years old which is a super age for a duck). She is a lot slower now than she was but this does not stop her from living her best life, spending her days swimming in the pools and sunbathing (when the sun comes out!). She likes to spend her time with Hella which is really sweet. They came to the rescue together and that friendship has stayed very strong. Francis is a Cross.
Leah is one of our crested ducks with an absolutely enormous crest, which is beautiful but it makes her incredibly vulnerable, especially during mating season. Leah absolutely adores Teddy and is one of his wives (along with Penguin). She does like to charge around the enclosure and makes us laugh as she is quite the busybody!. Leah is a Cayuga Crested.
Robin was the first duckling that came to us in 2022. She was so early in the season last year that she did not have any other ducklings to hang around with. We decided to build her her own little enclosure within the disabled enclosure so that she could get used to being with other ducks. This is where she met Forest whom she absolutely adores. Robin has become one of our carer ducks (like Popps) and she spends her time making sure that Forest is preened and well looked after. She is a gorgeous girl who loves to come and say hi whenever we go into the enclosure. We are so lucky to have her. Robin is a Cherry Valley.
One of the most inspirational flocks within the rescue. Sir Tom and Leanne have significant neurological issues and Faith is blind but they make it work and they are a very happy little flock. As their conditions have worsened they have had to learn to adjust and they have taken that in their stride. Although all of the ducks within the disabled flock are inspirational these guys really do make our hearts melt. They were all in such a bad way but with love and the right care they have recovered well and are living their best lives. We absolutely adore this trio.
Zeus and Dipper are two of our most boisterous boys who love nothing more than to peck at the volunteers (but in a nice way!). As Zeus has aged he has developed issues with his legs. Although Zeus is fine, we do not like to separate friends which is just as well because they are incredibly fond of each other. Dipper has some issues with his legs and posture, Zeus do not seem to mind and the two of them are such good friends. They are such a lot of fun.
Pom and Artie came to us at the rescue about 4 years ago with Grade 4 bumblefoot which required an operation on Christmas Eve, He recovered well but has very fully regained his ability to walk well. His best friend Artie came in separately with some leg issues but he and Pom are the best of friends. They lived with their foster mum for the last few years but have come back in to the rescue as Poms needs are best suited to our disabled flock setting.
Forest is an older lady who was struggling with the standard duck set-up her owner had. So her owner decided to rehome her at the rescue so that she could live in a more disabled-friendly set-up. This was such a difficult decision for her owner to make and we are so grateful she decided to do what was right for the duck and not for her. Often this is not what happens and sometimes ducks come to us a little later than they should. We understand it is hard to make this sort of decision but in the end, it has to be what is right for the duck and Forest loves living here. Forest is a Mallard.
Vera Duckworth and Bambi met at the rescue, having arrived at almost the same time. Both had lost their companions and were looking for love.
Vera is 14 years old and for a year until meeting Bambi, who is 12 years old had a special place in her heart for her mirror friend. Needless to say Vera ditched her mirror as soon as Bambi swooned in her direction and now the two of them are inseparable.
Vera is a Khaki cross and Bambi is a Runner
Onni came to us at a week old when his owner realised he would never be able to walk. He wanted him to have a happy supported life and so he has been with us ever since. He is a fearless and determined little boy who doesn't let his neurological issues stop him. He has a wheelchair to help him get around and it is such a pleasure to have him living with us at the rescue.
Howard came to us from a lovely family who had rescued him from a car accident. He had a severely broken wing and blindness in one eye. Unable to be released back into the wild Howard is spending his retirement days living here at the rescue with his own little flock
Wallace is a young boy who is still growing his big boy feathers. He has come to us following an accident which left his only mobile leg and foot damaged meaning he cannot walk. We are still treating his injuries and while we do, are enjoying his calm and happy disposition. He has his own little disabled flock to keep him company
Wonky came to us as a youngster due to his lack of mobility in both legs. He's a sweet-natured boy who has made the best of friends with George (left). He loves to spend his days laying in the sunshine and snorkelling the grass
